The Nabinagar Thermal Power Plant is a coal based thermal power plant located at Sivanpur Village in Nabinagar Taluk in Aurangabad District, Bihar.
Back in 2019, the Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) setted up the first unit of the plant that is generating 660 MW of electricity and is giving 85% of the power it generated to Bihar. The remaining 5% is given to Uttar Pradesh (10%), Jharkhand (4%), and Sikkim (1%).
The Nabinagar Thermal Power Plant which is also known as Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project is handled by the Nabinagar Power Generating Company (NPGC) which is a subsidiary of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited.
Now, although currently the Plant has one operational unit, three more units are planned to be added to the plant in future.
The NPGC’s Chief Executive Officer Vijay Singh said, the second unit of the Plant that is also generating 660 MW of electricity is going to be operational by the end of this month. Hence, it is expected, Starting next year, the state will get 660 Megawatts of more electricity.
The History
Back in 1989, the then Chief Minister of Bihar, Satyendra Narayan Singh proposed to set up a Thermal Power Plant in Nabinagar, Aurangabad and sent a proposal about the same to the then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi. However, the same proposal went to the dumpyard due to change in the state government. Then, In 2007, the Manmohan Singh’s Government approved to set up a thermal power plant in Nabinagar, Aurangabad, Bihar.
