Darbhanga is the city of ponds. Looking at the number of water bodies (especially ponds) in Darbhanga. The state government thought to use it via different mediums.
Generating solar energy is one of them. Yes, I am talking about Floating Solar Power Plants.
To promote clean and green energy, the state government has built the state’s first floating solar power plant in Darbhanga.
One can locate it in a pond situated in the Kadirabad locality.
With 4,004 photovoltaic panels (PV), each capable of generating 500 watts of electricity, the plant can generate 2 MW of green and clean electricity.
Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency commissions the project, whereas a Delhi-based firm, “AVAADA“, has installed it.
The plant was being prepared from October last year, and now it is complete.
The NBPDCL and SBPDCL will purchase this clean electricity from BREDA and then sell it to the consumers.
One thing is for sure is that the construction of this plant will reduce the electricity rate in the district.
The project is part of “Jal Jeewan Hariyali Abhiyan”, whose motto is to give water bodies a new life and utilize them for good purposes. For example, here, you can see, for generating clean energy.
On one hand, where the floating solar power plant will not harm the fish present in the pond; on the other hand, the water keeps the solar panel cool.
Setting up a solar power plant is cheaper and more efficient than the thermal power plant.
On one hand, constructing a thermal power plant takes years; the solar power plant can be set up in some months.
