So, first of all, let me tell you about the educational qualification and experience one should have in order to become headmaster in Bihar government-owned senior secondary school.
Who can become Headmasters in Bihar Government’s Senior Secondary Schools?
Not anyone can become a headmaster in the Bihar government’s senior secondary school, they should have appropriate educational qualifications and experience. Let’s learn about those.
Educational Qualifications
- Must be a post-graduate with at least 50 percent marks. Candidates who are either SC/ST, EBC, BC, Physically Disabled, Women, EWS could have at least 45 percent marks.
- Candidates must have passed either B.Ed, B.A.Ed, or B.S.C.Ed.
- Must have passed TET on or after the year 2012.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years continuous service on the post of secondary teacher in a state government school under Panchayati Raj or Municipal Body.
- Minimum 12 years continuous service in the post of Secondary Teacher in a school having permanent affiliation from CBSE, ICSE, BSEB.
- Minimum 8 years continuous service on the post of higher secondary teacher in a state government school under Panchayati Raj institution and municipal body.
- Minimum eight years continuous service in the post of Senior Secondary Teacher in a school permanently affiliated to CBSE, ICSE, BSEB.
Age Limit
The minimum and maximum age limits will not be fixed separately for teachers working under Panchayat and Municipal bodies. For teachers working in schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, BSEB, the minimum age should be 31 years and a maximum of 47 years as of August 1, 2021.

This is the first time, BPSC is recruiting Headmasters in the state’s senior secondary schools through an examination. Earlier they were recruited on the basis of their experience and interview.
About the Examination
Yes, you heard it right, after applying for the post, you have to qualify an examination that will be MCQ-based. A total of 150 questions will be asked in the examination out of which 100 questions are from General Knowledge and the remaining 50 are from the BED Course. The 2-hour examination will be conducted on an OMR sheet on which for every wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted.
Qualifying Marks
For candidates belonging to the general category the qualifying marks is 40 percent, however for candidates belonging to OBC and EBC category, the qualifying marks is 36.5 and 34 percent respectively. For women and physically disabled candidates, the qualifying marks is the least 32 percent.
Pay Scale (aka Salary)
Candidates who will qualify the examination will get the post for which the pay scale is Rs 35 thousand per month. Apart from that, the state government also pays some admissible allowances.
