Patna is all set to join the league of metro cities. On August 15, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the first phase of the Patna Metro. The inaugural line runs from Malahi Pakri in Kankarbagh to the Patliputra Bus Terminal. This marks Bihar’s first-ever metro service.
Two Corridors and 26 Stations
To begin with, the metro project includes two major corridors:
- East-West Corridor: 16.94 km
- North-South Corridor: 14.45 km
Combined, the total route spans 34.39 km. In this phase, 26 stations will be built—13 underground and 13 elevated. As of now, tracks have already been laid at six stations.
Affordable Fare Structure
The metro fare is expected to range from ₹10 to ₹60, depending on the distance. Interestingly, the fare model is designed so that longer routes may cost less per kilometer. A final fare chart will be released soon, based on recommendations from the fare committee.
At launch, each train will have three coaches, with space for 150 seated passengers. If needed, coaches can be expanded up to eight per train.
Modern Facilities Like Delhi Metro
The Patna Metro aims to offer a smooth and comfortable journey. Notably, passengers can expect:
- Fully air-conditioned coaches
- CCTV cameras for safety
- Free Wi-Fi and charging ports
- Food courts and retail outlets at select stations
- Dedicated parking facilities
- Mobile app for route info and ticket booking
Additionally, the first coach will arrive from Maharashtra next month, while another is being built in Bengaluru.
According to Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena, the Patna Metro will include all the modern features found in Delhi Metro.
