Patna: While the state is already tackling the second wave of COVID-19, some cases of Mucormycosis aka Black Fungus have also come into light and are rising in our state.
At the time of writing of this article, Patna reports 61 cases of Black Fungus.
Seeing the same, this Tuesday, the Additional Chief Secretary of Bihar health department, Mr. Pratyaya Amrit wrote a letter to Bihar Health Department asking them to approve making Patna AIIMS and IGIMS the Centre of Excellence for treating Black Fungus.
The Additional Chief Secretary also said, back on May 9, the Indian Council of Medical Research published a detailed guideline for treating Mucormycosis and we are happy to say that AIIMS and IGIMS in Patna are fulfilling all these guidelines.
Both these hospitals have all the required specialists i.e. Microbiologist, Biochemist, ENT Specialist, Dentist and Orthopaedic for treating Mucormycosis.
Looking at the same, we asked our health department to make both these hospitals as the Centre of Excellence for treating Mucormycosis and we finally have got the approval.
Now, AIIMS and IGIMS in Patna are the Centre of Excellence for the treatment of Mucormycosis aka Black Fungus.
This Sunday, the health minister of our state Shri Mangal Pandey told us that our state has received 6000 doses of Amphotericin-B injection which is now provided to different hospitals in the state for treating Mucormycosis. The Union Health Ministry has already approved Amphotericin-B injection for treating Mucormycosis.
