Bihar Factory Labour Working Hours Updated

The Bihar Government has updated the working hours of laborers working in the registered factories in the state for a maximum of 48 hours a week.

No factory in the state has now been allowed to take work from its laborers more than 48 hours a week.

Even during this period, a worker can work for a maximum of 12 hours in a day.

After completing five hours of their work, the workers are allowed to take a break for half an hour.

As per the labor resource department, the workers have fixed wages, working hours, and annual leave.

The state government has said, if any factory takes work from their laborers beyond these hours, then they have to pay double wage for the required hours.

A worker must get his/her overtime money at the end of the pay period.

The factories must paste the list of holidays in front of the workers in public places so that they are aware of their holidays.

For every 500 workers working in the factory, a security officer should be appointed.

In factories building hazardous products, a security officer must be appointed for every 250 workers.

The factories must constitute a safety committee and a representative for their workers.

The tenure of these committees will be of 3 years.

The committee meeting should be organized every 3 months.

The factories must keep their employee database in a register of somewhere else.

For large factories, a medical officer should also be appointed.

The factories must have facilities like toilet, washroom, drinking water, first aid, canteen, etc. These facilities should not be just limited to regular workers but contract workers can also use them.
