Bihar Special Transgender Police Personnel Unit

The Bihar government has recently filed an affidavit in the Patna High Court to give the people of the transgender community a respectful place in society. In the affidavit, the Bihar government has said to create a separate special unit for transgender police personnel at the district level.

This unit of transgender police personnel will work under the District Superintendent of Police.

On behalf of the Bihar government, this affidavit has been presented by Chief Secretary of Home Department Amir Subhani in front of Patna High Court Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar.

In the affidavit, the Bihar government says, first of all by appointing Transgenders in public jobs like the Police Department will not just increase their morale but will also change the attitude of society to look at transgenders.

The government says that the number of transgender people in Bihar is very less. Only 0.039% of the total population of the state is transgender. Apart from this, there are a few selected transgenders in the state who are constables or sub-inspectors in the police. In this case, a separate special unit for transgender police personnel will motivate them to join the police department.

Many of you may not know, but back on January 14 this year, the Bihar government has made a decision to give reservation to people coming from the transgender category for the reinstatement of the posts of police constables and sub-inspectors in the state.
