11 Bihar Districts Get 22 Exclusive POCSO Courts

This Friday, in consultation with the Patna High Court, The Department of Law, Bihar released a notification about 22 new exclusive POCSO courts in 11 Judicial districts of Bihar. These POCSO courts are ordered to hear only the cases falls under the POCSO act.

This is first time the state has exclusive POCSO court. There are two reasons due to which, the state government has initiated 22 new exclusive POCSO court in Bihar. The first one is to solve the pending cases of POCSO act as soon as possible to deliver justice to the minors. The second reason why this decision has been made is because the supreme court directs all the authorities to hear and solve the POCSO cases as soon as possible.

Following the same notification, below is the list of 11 Judicial Districts in Bihar that has got 2 new POCSO courts each. In these districts, now POCSO cases are going to be hear at Courts of ADJ-VI and ADJ-VII. However, earlier in these districts, POCSO cases was handled by Court of ADJ-I.

  1. Bhagalpur
  2. East Champaran
  3. Gaya
  4. Katihar
  5. Madhubani
  6. Muzaffarpur
  7. Nalanda
  8. Purnia
  9. Rohtas
  10. West Champaran
  11. Patna

Other than these 11 Judicial districts, Araria, Aurangabad, Begusarai, Banka, Bhojpur, Buxar, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Jehanabad, Kaimur, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, Munger, Nawada, Saharsa, Samastipur, Saran, Sheikhpura, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Supaul and Vaishali have one court each handling cases of POCSO act like earlier. In these districts, ADJ-VI court is now going to hear the cases of POCSO act. It has been said, In these 23 districts, around 300 POCSO cases are pending for disposal.

In Jamui, Kishanganj and Shoehar, court of ADJ-I is going to hear POCSO cases currently that is less than 100 in these three districts.

Special public prosecutor (POCSO Act, Patna) Suresh Chandra Prasad said around 1300 cases of POCSO Act awaiting disposal in Patna alone.
