In a bid to promote the use of Bicycles among the youth and to cut down the rising level of Air Pollution in the State, Bihar is launching a Cycles on Rent Scheme. The State Capital, Patna is going to be benefitted first with this scheme. A total of 72 cycle stands are planned to be made in the city. However, In the first phase, 30 of these stands are going to be made. The State Government has invited tenders for the same.
The Cycles provided under this scheme are going to be equipped with GPS i.e. Global Positioning System. For the first 30 minutes, one can avail the cycle for free, however, for an hour, one must pay Rs 5. Those who want to rent the cycle for a full day must pay Rs 30. After using the cycle, one can submit it to any of the cycle stands present in the city. The rent booking would be done via an app that will be launched soon.
Recently, a report ranked Patna to be the 7th most polluted city in the world. The Bihar State Pollution Control board has said, the pollution in the state is mainly due to vehicular and industry emission, road dust, construction activities, domestic fuel burning, and open waste burning. The state government is working hard to control these activities and this Cycles on Rent scheme is part of that control measurement.
