Bihar won three Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020

Every year, the National Academy of letters, at its annual event called Festival of Letters, selects writers who have published the most outstanding book in literature in any of the 24 select major Indian Languages listed in the 8th schedule of the Indian Constitution and give them Sahitya Akademi Awards.

The Sahitya Akademi Awards winners get a plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh.

Last Friday, the National Academy of Letters announced the winners of the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020.

A total of 20 winners have been announced for the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2020. Out of the 20 works selected, seven are of poetry collections, and four are of Novels, five are of short stories, two are of plays and one each of memoirs and epic poetry.

All these awards are given for the books published in the recent five years from January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2018.

Out of the 20 winners selected for the year 2020, three are from Bihar, and this article is all about them.

Bihari’s who won the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020

Anamika 

Anamika from Muzaffarpur became the first woman in India to win the Sahitya Akademi Award in Hindi for her poetry collection.

Currently, Anamika is the English Literature Professor at Saraswati College, University of Delhi.

So far, Anamika has authored eight collections of poetry, five novels and four Criticism.

Although she has won several awards that include the names like Bharat Bhushan Award for Poetry, Rajbhasha Parishad Award, Sahitya Samman and more, She has got the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 for her poetry Tokri Mein Digant ‘Their Gatha’ 2014.

Anamika is now the three literary writers in Bihar who won the Sahitya Akademi Award in Hindi. The other two writers are Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Arun Kamal.

Kamal Kant Jha

Born in Haripur, Madhubani, Bihar, the 80-year-old Kamalkant Jha has authored 22 books that include poems, essays, and plays. From his village, Haripur, Kamalkant is the second author to win the Sahitya Akademi award. Fifty years back, Upendra Jha Vyas from his town also won the Sahitya Akademi Award.

Kamal Kant Jha has been awarded Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 for his 27 short stories in Gachh Roosal Achhi. Written in Maithili Language, Gachh Roosal Achhi portrays the worries of society.

Hussain UL Haq

The 71-year-old Urdu writer Hussain UL Haq has got the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020 for his novel Amavas Mein Khwaab written in the Urdu Language.

Hussain has done M.A in Urdu and Persian language, and In 1985, he also completed his PhD in Urdu from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar.
