In the last three to four years, school children throughout the country have increased their enrollment in private tuitions.
In comparison to other states, Bihar and Bengal have the maximum number of school children taking private tuitions.
As per ASER 2021 report, only 30 percent of school students in 2018 were enrolled in private tuitions nationwide. However, the same has been increased to 40 percent in 2021.
Students participating in private tuition are not just from government schools, but also from private schools. That shows the quality of education is lacking in private schools as well.
The report has also explained, children of less-educated parents are enrolled more in private tuitions in comparison to children of more educated parents. Only 62 percent of government school students get help at their home in their education whereas 76.1 percent of private school students are getting help at home in their education.
In the year 2020, 64.3 percent of school students in Bihar were enrolled in tuitions which has been increased to 73.5 percent in 2021. That means, only 26.5 percent of school students in Bihar have either faith in school education or they are dependent on self-study.
The above data has come from a phone survey of 4832 children of age group between 5-16.
