SKMCH Muzaffarpur is a state government controlled Medical College and Hospital located in the Muzaffarpur District of the state Bihar in India.

Established 50 years ago, It is now the second largest medical college and hospital in North Bihar.

In March 1970, a society named Vaishali Siksha Pratisthan whose strong members – Sri L.P. Shahi (the then Cabinet Minister of Bihar), Late Dr (Prof.) S.M. Nawab (a surgeon of national fame), and Late Sri Raghunath Pandey setted up this Institution.

On May 11, 1970, the then Chief Minister of Bihar, Late Sri Daroga Prasad Rai inaugurated this medical college and hospital.

The first batch of this college was started back in 1969, however, back then, since the college didn’t have any campus, it’s teaching work was done on the building of S.K.J. Law College that is situated in Ganipur, Muzaffarpur.

Later the founder principal of this college, Dr. S.M. Nawab, started a four bedded hospital in front of the S.K.J. Law College in a rented house and that is the first time, the SKMCH College becomes a hospital too.

Then afterwards, in the meantime, the college and hospital acquired 170 acres of land at the east side of Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi road. This 170 acres of land is now named as Umanagar.

In 1973, the medical college and hospital finally moved to its own building.

By 1975, the hospital successfully built four hostels for boys (having a capacity of 400 students), 1 hostel for girls, a quarter for the Principal, 18 roomed guest house, a bank, a post office and 1,70,000 sq. ft. area of college building with two lecture theatres.

After Inspecting this college and hospital in 1975 and 1977 respectively by the Medical Council of India, it got the approval to teach the MBBS degree. Then in 1979, the Bihar Government acquired this Institution.

After the acquisition, the hospital takes 50 undergraduate admission through a joint entrance examination which is conducted each year by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board, Patna.

In March 2010, this college and hospital was affiliated by the Aryabhatta Knowledge University. Before then, it was affiliated by the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University Muzaffarpur.

The medical college teaches MBBS courses to the Undergraduates and MD & MS courses to the Postgraduates.

The college has 15 acres of playground area which is suitable to play games like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, and Tennis.
