While our whole country is currently fighting with the second wave of COVID-19, some states report cases of Mucormycosis which is also commonly known as Black Fungus. Bihar is also one such state that has a growing number of Black Fungus patients.
Now, while the state is currently fighting with two fungal infections, this Thursday, Patna Medical College and Hospital reports four cases of White Fungus.
If we believe the report and the doctor then White fungus is more deadlier than the Black Fungus. The head of PMCH, Microbiology department, Dr. SN Singh said, the white fungus poses risks to patients who are on Oxygen support.
White Fungus affects several organs of Body
Just like the Black Fungus, the White Fungus develops inside the body and severely affects the lungs and other parts of the body such as nails, skin, stomach, brain, kidney, mouth and private parts. If not detected in time, then the White Fungus might lead the patient to death.
Dr. Singh said, the four cases reported White Fungus in PMCH had symptoms like COVID-19 but the test report came negative. After performing the High Resolution Computed tomography (HRCT) test, this fungal infection was detected in the lungs of the patients.
Who are most vulnerable to White Fungus?
If we believe some reports then, severe diabetic patients or patients with weak immune systems are more vulnerable to this fungal infection.
