Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has recently said that the Department of Atomic Energy has sanctioned the construction of a 100 bed Cancer Hospital in Muzaffarpur. The cost to construct this project is said to be around Rs. 198 crore.

The people of North Bihar have been asking for a Cancer Hospital for a very long time. Their demand is now getting fulfilled. The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur is being constructed in the premises of North Bihar famous Shri Krishna Memorial College and Hospital.

The Cancer Hospital has 15 acres of Land

The state government has already allotted 15 acres of land to the Tata Memorial Hospital to build this Cancer Hospital on the back side of Shri Krishna Memorial College and Hospital.

The Head of Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur, Dr. Ravikant Singh said, from February 2021 the hospital will start treating patients. Initially, till the permanent structure of the hospital will not be completed, it will treat patients in an alternate 50 bed fabricated structure which is currently being ready in Chennai and will soon reach Muzaffarpur. In addition to this 50 bed fabricated structure, the hospital will have a pathology centre and other services.

As per the Management, a team of doctors from Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai has come to the hospital in the last week of January 2021 and are treating the patients.

Last year, the hospital started the OPD services in the SKMCH’s Old Auditorium. The hospital has started surveying the number of cancer patients in the blocks near Muzaffarpur to inform them about the screening and medicines facility of Cancer is now available in SKMCH. Patients now coming to OPD are getting the treatment and necessary medicines for free.

The Hospital has partnered with Alkem Laboratories to set up Advance Radiotherapy Facility

The Hospital authority i.e. Tata Memorial Centre has said to be partnered with Alkem Laboratories to set up Advance Radiotherapy Facility in the Hospital Premises. This Advance Radiotherapy Facility will contain the state of art Teletherapy and Brachytherapy unit.

To Decentralize the Cancer Care Facility, 3 Mini Cancer Units will be opened in Jehanabad, Bhagalpur, and Buxar. These Units in turn will be operated by the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur.
