Pollution Certificate Mandatory for Insurance Renewal Bihar

It isn’t hidden from anyone that some cities in Bihar, for example, Patna and Muzaffarpur are the most polluted cities in the World. To cut the rising level of Air Pollution, the state government is taking various measurements. Recently, we came to know that the state Capital is soon going to get Cycles on Rent and now recently in a release dated August 6, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has said now Pollution Certificate is mandatory to renew Motor Vehicle Insurance. However, it doesn’t mean one cannot claim the insurance if not able to produce a valid PUC certificate at the time of accident.

IRDAI says, General Insurance Companies must take a valid PUC Certificate at the time of renewal of the Motor Vehicle Insurance.

Like Insurance Certificate, the pollution certificate is also mandatory to get the Fitness Certificate and Permit. This new decision has come into existence when the apex court ordered the same to the Insurance Regulatory and Development authority of India.

Some reports say, In the state Capital “Patna” itself has around 3 Lakh vehicles not have their pollution certificate made.

Do note that, a Pollution certificate also known as PUC Certificate is provided to the vehicles successfully passed the PUC test. Passing a PUC test means the emission rate of the vehicle is in alignment and follow the standard pollution norms which in turn in not harmful to the environment.

Last year, Bihar increased the charge to make a PUC Certificate for Motorcycles from Rs. 50 to Rs. 80 and for Three Wheelers from Rs. 80 to Rs. 100, however, for four wheelers the charges remains unchanged i.e. Rs. 120.
